About Me: I, Closed Box (A post-Hoffman Story)

About Me

Howdy. I’m David, I’m 28 and from London, though I was born in Southend On Sea. Once upon a time, I was a mess. My father left when I was 4, and again when I was 7, and I had a mother who had no idea how to relate to me emotionally. For 11 years, through abject depression, anxiety and any number of drug problems, I saw therapist after therapist, and essentially got nowhere. Eventually, I reached the end of my tether; with a life that was going nowhere on all fronts, and with what I had become.

The Blog’s title ‘Back, and to The Future’ is a reference to something that happened recently in my life. One day, this past April(ish) I was seeing yet another new therapist until one session, she turned around to me and said ‘I can’t help you’. Eventually, partly due to lack of options, and partly due to pure dumb luck, I enrolled  on to a self-help course known as The Hoffman Process, an 8-day, intensive residential programme designed to break you down to the very core of your insecurities, anxieties and problems, before building you right back up again. I did indeed step back, only to take steps into the future.

This blog begins the day after I returned home.

EDIT: I have noticed a number of people viewing this blog because they have done a web search for ”Hoffman Process” or ”Hoffman Process Completion” or something like that. This blog may or may not be useful to you, but whatever you’re looking for, i’d suggest starting at the beginning: http://backandtothefuture.wordpress.com/2008/07/13/back-and-to-the-future/.

I’m sitting here with a cup of hot chocolate and reading your blog, which I found when I was bored at school, and I must say I really enjoy reading it. (Eventhough I don’t understand everything you write, and don’t know what The Hoffman Process is, but I’ll blame that on the fact that I am sixteen years, and from Norway, and I am not used to read so “difficult” texts.) I haven’t read all your blog entries yet, but my cup is not empty.
I think you seem like a really interesting man, you are really a good writer and your blog is now one of the blogs I will read a lot. So now you know. :D

Oh, well. That will be embarrasing.. For both of us, I will presume. xD

I am going to write on saturday, when I get home. :)
Then you get to see my new clothes. Hurray!

My parental history is very similar. My parents divorced when I was 5. My mother was very immature emotionally.
Never saw my dad till I was in my 20’s then he died.
Maybe this is a Levy thing?
